How to Create an Amazing Home Office

Working at home is an awesome concept in theory, but have you ever tried to make a small space like your cubicle exciting and fun? Probably not, but these are some ways that you can produce the most amazing home office in a few steps.

Use Pinterest

If you’re searching for a bit of inspiration, try a searching on Pinterest for a few ideas, but realize that most of the photos you see are not necessarily for a real working experience. Those chairs you see in those photos may look amazing, but can they really support your back throughout a 50-plus hour work week? Those small vintage desks may look aesthetically magnificent, but how much data can they reasonably hold? And those vibrant colors may pop in that series on Pinterest, but the reality is that those colors may bleed and scream at your own home office so you may want to reconsider.

The Rules of Ergonomics

Keep computer screen eye level at all times. Position your keyboard to be parallel to the floor, and adjust your chair to have feet rested squarely on the floor as you are working. At the end of the day, you should invest in a great ergonomic chair that you love.

Natural Light Love

You will want to have as much natural light as possible, since studies have shown how light from the sun can produce healthier and happier moods throughout the day. If you cannot get that much natural light, consider taking a few breaks each day to go out into it and enjoy it for a few minutes at a time.

Lamp Love

Sure, you’ll need some natural light, but at the end of the day, a few lamps will be necessary as well. A table lamp or two with a soft glow are ideal. When it comes to design, the sky is truly the limit and this is when you can get as creative as you want with so many options out there to choose from.

Storage

You’re going to need a place to place your files and you ideally want that place and storage piece to look as nice as possible. Opt for magazine racks and display shelves and then build from there. If you need a few bookcases, don’t get too many as they will potentially take away from the space. If you are setting up your office in a bedroom, then use the closet.

Create a Comfortable Space

Although your desk is where you will do most of your work, you also will need a place to read and think and unwind between working. A great option to consider is a nice, comfortable inexpensive desk chair that has a coffee table or a lamp nearby. A nice pillow or two is also perfect and one of the best ways to pamper yourself as you work throughout a busy day. And if you feel like taking a nap there, then by all means do so! That is one of the benefits to working at home – you call the shots and decide your own timetable!
